Certificates and Overseas Equivalence

An ACT Senior Secondary Certificate is awarded to all senior secondary students who have successfully met the ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies (ACT BSSS) requirements at the end of Year 12.

Uncollected Certificates

Uncollected Senior Secondary Certificates

Uncollected Senior Secondary Certificates, Tertiary Entrance Statements and Vocational Qualifications are returned to the Office of the Board of Senior Secondary Studies by the end of February of the following year. They are available for collection between 8:30am and 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.

As your results are your personal affair the Board must take steps to be satisfied with the identity of the applicant. You will need to provide photographic identification before you collect any documents. Your documents will not be made available to a person acting on your behalf except with your written authorisation, accompanied by certified photographic identification, nor will results be given verbally.

Overseas Equivalence

Overseas Educational Equivalence

People with completed secondary educational qualifications gained internationally may apply to the Office of the Board of Senior Secondary Studies to have their qualifications assessed. The assessment does not give the applicant a new certificate or diploma: the applicant is issued with a statement giving the equivalent Australian Capital Territory standard of her/his educational qualifications.

Please note that each application is processed on a case-by-case basis. Whether or not we are able to provide a statement of equivalence depends on the qualification and the supporting evidence. We are not able to provide statements of equivalence for all senior secondary qualifications from all countries.

Which qualifications are not recognised?

  • Incomplete studies
  • Awards gained from post-secondary studies, e.g. certificates of adult preparation
  • Awards from private institutions not recognised by educational authorities in the country of origin
  • Technical, professional, trade qualifications that are not part of secondary studies.
